American Heart Heartsaver Classes        
 



Intended audience:

This class is designed for people who are required by their employer to have a certification card. Examples are people who work in group homes, people who work with the elderly, first responders in business, and people who work in restaurants.

Description:

First Aid is the prompt care that you give when someone is injured or has a sudden illness. Little or no medical equipment is needed.  First Aid topics include how to check an injured victim; what to do for bleeding; how to care for bone, muscle and joint injuries; what to do for medical emergencies such as a severe allergic reaction; what to do for heat or cold related injuries and first aid kit supplies.
First Aid includes hands-on practice. Skills include finding the medical problem, helping a choking victim, how to use an Epinephrine pen and what to do for shock.

 

Heartsaver First Aid may be combined with Heartsaver CPR or Heartsaver CPR/AED.

Student to instructor ratio: 6:1

Class fee: $50.00 - $90.00 Price dependent on components

Approximate class length: 3½ to 8 hours depending on selected components

Written exercises are completed during class. There is no pass/fail test at end of class.

Certification is good for two years.

 

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose.
